Chochmat HaLev

These drop-in meditation classes consist of a talk, guided meditation and a chance for questions and answers. Each talk is a part of a series, yet is self-contained. Class titles to be announced

We also have weekly classes in Fremont, Hayward, Newark and Walnut Creek.

Our programs are taught by Buddhist Teacher, Bee Uytiepo. Our Spiritual Director is Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a highly- acclaimed meditation master and author of over 20 books on Buddhism.

Dzalandhara Buddhist Center is part of the New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union, established by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This international association of study and meditation centers follows the pure tradition of Mahayana Buddhism derived from the Buddhist meditators and scholars Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa.

Our Teachers

Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

The Spiritual Director of Dzalandhara Buddhist Center is Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Geshe Kelsang is a fully accomplished meditation master and internationally renowned teacher of Kadampa Buddhism.

Geshe-la, as his students affectionately call him, was ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of eight and then spent almost forty years in concentrated study and meditation.

He has dedicated his entire life to teaching Buddhism and to providing conditions conducive for the study and practice of Buddha’s teachings, with the sole aim of helping others discover a meaningful life and solve their problems. He is the Founder and Spiritual Director of New Kadampa Tradition--International Kadampa Buddhist Union.

Geshe-la has written twenty highly acclaimed books that reveal the complete path to enlightenment, trained hundreds of meditation teachers through the Teacher Training Program, and established over 1,000 meditation Centers in over 40 countries.

A humble monk, he is made extraordinary by his selfless wish and tireless work for others to have everything they need to follow the spiritual path.

Through his instructions Geshe-la shows how we can integrate Buddha's advice into our modern lives and find real, lasting peace and happiness.

Fundraising for a Building

Dzalandhara is looking for a commercial space in the East Bay in order to offer a greater variety of classes such as morning meditations, chanted prayers, day classes and retreats. If you are interested in volunteering your ideas or time to this endeavor please contact our Administrative Director, Cate Fields at info@meditationinberkeley.org or phone her at 510-559-8183.
